First Blue Bridge run of the season. Beautiful day.
Supporting our 'Ohana during COVID-19
Today the board made the difficult decision to suspend our practices and meetings until further notice based on the current guidance from state and local health officials. Paddling together as an ‘Ohana is what brings us all to this sport and this club. Unfortunately right now this is our responsibility to our members and the wider Tri-Cities community to keep everyone healthy and safe. As the situation evolves into April we will continue to monitor and update with our plans for the season. Please everyone stay healthy and wash your hands, I have full confidence we will pull together and be back on the water together before you know it.
Club Updates
It’s been a while since we’ve put something up here so I thought it would be good to make a post now that the season is in full swing.
We’ve had a great spring season with lots of new members and very good attendance at practice. It’s hard to think of one where we’ve had less than three canoes on the water! Saturday Practice Times are now at 8:30 A.M. as we get into the hot summer months and prepare for Rooster Rock and The Gorge.
Looking forward to seeing the same enthusiasm and spirit as we paddle into summer!
Practice Cancelled Monday 08/20
TCOCC will not be practicing today due to poor air quality. Hopefully it clears up enough later in the week to go out. Whatever happens we will meet Wednesday to load canoes for the race this weekend. Please make it a priority to attend especially if you plan on racing.
Practice Cancelled 08/13/2018
Practice Will be cancelled today due to unhealthy air quality. Sorry for the late notice please make smart health decisions and go to the gym if you really need some activity.
Air Quality Alert
Please be aware of the reduced Air quality this week and make healthy choices when it comes to outside activity. We are under an air quality alert through Wednesday, meaning that unhealthy to very unhealthy air conditions will persist. TCOCC will meet for practice as normally scheduled but we will evaluate conditions and personnel when deciding on a plan. If you have any sensitivity to cardiac or respiratory distress carefully consider whether or not to take part in outside activity.
Look at the links below for information on air quality and weather forecasting:
Practice Clarifications
We've had a lot of change recently so this is to clear up any confusion about our current practice schedule:
Monday, Wednesday, Saturday practices are not changing they start at 5:45 P.M. and 8:15 A.M.
For our new practices we are requesting notice at least 24 hours in advance if you plan to paddle so seats can be worked out and we insure full canoes:
Friday practice is for those who want to work harder and be more competitive, it will consist of more difficult workouts to simulate race conditions. This starts at 5:45 P.M. Contact Tyler for a seat.
Sunday practice is for our wahine (women) to work on their blend and get a different feel from paddling with the usual mixed crew. This starts at 8:15 A.M. Contact Laura or Nessa for a seat

Back on the Water!
What a great start for the season! We had 16 paddlers so we could comfortably paddle all three wa'a. From here on out we'll be on our normal schedule. We're Starting with Monday/Wednesday Practice at 5:45 and Saturday Practice at 9:30.
Don't forget our first new paddler night will be April 9th. Anyone new to the sport can come out on this practice that will be geared towards a smooth introduction to paddling.
Pictures from Saturday are below
First Practice Tommorrow!

Saturday Practice Changes
Don't forget we're changing Saturday practice time to 9:00 A.M. for the rest of the season. Just a few more weeks to paddle before the wa'a have to go away for the winter!
Weekday Practice Time Change
Fall is here and the days are getting shorter. In order to keep our weekday practices in the light, we will be moving everything up 15 minutes. Meet up time is now 5:30, on the water by 5:45.
Practice Cancelled Wednesday 09/06
Due to the hazardous air quality practice will be cancelled on Wednesday. We want to be out on the water and keep everyone safe so these decisions will be day to day. Hoping for some improvement over the weekend and for those directly affected by these fires to stay safe.
Labor Day Weekend Practice
Happy Labor Day Everyone! For The Holiday Weekend Saturday Practice will be at the usual time and Labor Day Monday practice will be moved to the Saturday time of 8:15 so that everyone who wants to paddle can enjoy their holiday afternoon.
Practice Cancelled Saturday 08/19
Due to the PNW challenge there will be no practice on Saturday. Good luck to all of the paddlers participating. Its our last TCOCC race of the season and it should be a fun one!
Practice Cancelled Wednesday 08/02
Due to the dangerously unhealthy air quality coupled with the expected high temperatures, practice will be cancelled tonight. The Forecast shows air quality improving by Saturday so we will plan to be back on the water on our normal schedule at that point.
Practice Cancelled Saturday 07/29
Due to Da Grind practice will be cancelled Saturday. We will resume normal schedule on Monday. Good Luck to all of those racing on Saturday!
Practice Cancelled Saturday
Due to both members and wa'a being gone for the gorge race this weekend there will be no practice Saturday morning. Normal schedule will resume on Monday. Good luck to all the crews racing!
Saturday Scrimmage
We had a great training session today two strong crews came out for a difficult 11 mile course up and down the Columbia. We're hoping to use this course for future training as we prepare for the rest of the season. 1 hour 36 minutes now stands as the time to beat!
Monday Mahalo
Mahalo to everyone who came out to practice on Monday. We had 20 paddlers show up and 2 graciously volunteered to sit out. That's the first time this season. Its never good to leave anyone on shore but this is definitely filed under good problems to have. If we keep up the great spirit and recruiting, we might have to find another Canoe!
